Insulin adjustments for high-fat, high-protein meals must be "evidenced-based, safe, and practical" (Smart et al).

Once again, Lauren is not a qualified, licensed health professional who should be providing education far beyond her scope of practice. This post further demonstrates the damaging of her doing so by providing dosing recommendations for fat that is not backed by current research findings.

According to a recent study from the American Diabetes Association Diabetes Care Journal, the mechanisms for carbohydrate, protein, and fat are complex and dependent on a variety of factors. Additionally, none of their recommendations had encouraged increasing basal insulin for those who use multiple-daily injections and that the optimal dose will depend on matching insulin to the entire meal composition and should be tailored for each individual. Blanket statements that are not backed by science or current evidence run the risk of causing harm for potential people with diabetes.
