Please provide written feedback about concerns about the upcoming Metro Noth Station and the proposed changes in zoning.

The Bronx Borough President's office will be accepting written testimony until Friday, April 19th. Please send your written testimony to publictestimony@bronxbp.nyc.gov.

Below are the concerns and requests of local residents and PWG leadership. Please read through them and feel free to include them when you give feedback.

We support the new Metro North Station and new housing units in the neighbhood but oppose the height of the new zoming. R8 zoning such as planned on the vacant lot n the corner of E Tremont and Unionport Rd has no absolut height limits. A building significantly taller than our 13 story buildings in Parkchetser could be built. We oppose zoning being changed on the current site of our two garages, heat plant and management offices to anything that would permit residential buildings being built. Preserving our current garage spaces do not go far enough we need to protect the historic fabric of the 83 year old planned community which has historical significance.
Things to ask: Which parking requirements will be used?.

Parkchester Watch Group’s concerns about new zoning
School overcrowding
Crime and security
Traffic and congestion
Additional parking is needed there is already a parking shortage additional development will make it worse.
Blocking of views, light and breezes.

What Parkchetser Watch Group wants to see in this plan
A new elementary school
NYPD security cameras on E Tremont Ave
A MTA police substation in train station
A plan to minimize traffic jams.
A public parking structure with spaces set aside for monthly parking.
Different zoning for vacant lot on f E Tremont and Unionport Rd to be in scale with heights of our buildings around 13 floors.
Protections to keep from Parkchester Condo’s garages, management office or heat plant from being torn down or built upon. (Do not change the zoning to residential.
Buildings of approximately 4 floor height across street of E Tremont Ave to ‘step down’ the height of our buildings.
Affordability
Large size supermarket

Our updated advice on heat

We recommend residents have a smart thermometershttps://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0872V9WJ5?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&th=hi 1

or regular thermometer to see if Parkchester is obeying the heat law or if the heat law is inadequate. We recommend a smart thermometer because it will track the temperature all day and night and keep a record of the temperature. If residents are cold and their apartment temperature meets the legal requirement then they should reach out to council member Farias which email address will be in this comment and ask her to advocate for the current bill to change the heat law. If it is below the legal temp then please follow our advice below.

File your 311 complaints. Remember you can put in an anonymous complaint. You can call 311 or file a complaint online.  But we recommend giving your contact info so HPD can follow up. You do not have to worry about losing government assistance or the city asking about your legal status when filing a complaint. Heat is a human right. https://portal.311.nyc.gov/sr-step/?id=564ce0e1-f177-ee11-a81c-002248522049&stepid=be973791-d174-e811-a83a-000d3a33bdbd
