Happy New Year to all our friends,

Thank you to the 3369 who have visited our on-line visitors guid to Owlthorpe Heritage and Nature trail https://www.ecological-owlthorpe.org/directionsmaps.htm Please scroll down the page and look under the section “Downstream flooding.” This is what happens when deforestation takes place to build new housing on a natural flood plain. The www.ecological-owlthorpe.org  project calls for protection of upstream environments. The Environment Agency, the Forestry Commission and Natural England have jointly committed to “nature-based solutions to tackle the climate emergency”, to which Ecological Owlthorpe has the potential to make an excellent contribution.

1,697 have signed our petition  https://chng.it/6vXHqcGG4S as we say on our website, Taking Action, especially in this election year, is vital as public opinion is a very strong tool. It is by working together that we can change hearts and minds and curb the over-development of vital green spaces, especially when grassland and mature valuable trees are threatened with destruction. Numbers are important: politicians take notice when they feel a sufficient threat to their re-election.

Thank you for your support

Michael Meredith
