Local Downstream Flooding.

Many residents of flooding in Chesterfield, Rotherham and Retford have been flooded out on several occasions. The flooding seems to be getting more severe. Why? There is concern amongst residents that deforestation upstream to make way for new housing developments is increasing runoff water that has swollen the flow of water in rivers causing them to overflow their banks.

The fields of Owlthorpe hold millions of gallons of water which is gently released into the Ochre Dyke. In the site visit Wednesday 20th January 2021, we showed Planning inspector O S Woodwards water retention in Ecological Owlthorpe, as described in this short video. https://www.ecological-owlthorpe.org/Water.mp4

The deforestation on site E in Owlthorpe to make way for housing has incised the runoff water please look at the video  (55) Pedestrian Underpass Flooding under section DownStream Flooding in Our visitors guide to Owlthorpe Heritage & Nature Trail
