A big thank you to all our supporters. There is to be a review in July 2023 regarding the proposal to build 150 new properties on the Grassland project (Plot F) in Owlthorpe Heritage & Nature Trail. We need to let Simon Vincent Email: simon.vincent@sheffield.gov.uk Sheffield (LPA) know how we feel. Please be polite, we need to convince Sheffield (LPA) not to destroy our Oasis.
Sheffield (LPA) and the Planning Inspectorate have a Duty of Care not to allow New Properties to be built upstream in areas that would increase the flood risk to those living downstream.
I suggested to Inspector O S Woodwards that Sheffield City Council should continue to receive Government payments from Natural England and continue supporting Owlthorpe as an upstream nature-based solution stopping downstream flooding. As explained by the Environment Secretary George Eustace MP in this interview with Sophie Ridge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbYXEDczLU the Government’s response to UK floods, an extra £4 Billion to be spent on upstream flood defences.
I suggested to the inspector that Avant Homes should move their project to the disused Aerodrome at Norton, which is a Brownfield site by definition boasting many derelict buildings in need of redevelopment. I explained that I thought that Sheffield (LPA) would be able to receive government funding for both projects. Guy Williams, Barrister for Sheffield City Council thanked me for my suggestion but Roland Bolton, Strategic Planning Research Unit Mrs Stephens and Mrs Hull, Sheffield City Council proclaimed that the Aerodrome is greenbelt so could not be built upon. I disagreed and explained that the MOD may be responsible for removing the derelict buildings many of which had asbestos present on the site. Reported in Sheffield Star March 29 2021 “Demolition finally gets underway at former air base.” Buildings have now been removed.
Simon Vincent, Strategic Planning and Service Manager explains that now the old buildings have been removed, that Sheffield (LPA) intends to build 270 New Properties on the old Aerodrome at Norton.
