It was a pleasure to visit Sheffield tree fair held at Sheffield Botanical Gardens on Saturday, 20 May 2023. This was a well-attended and organised event. Many of the activities were family-friendly, celebrating the wonder of trees and woodlands. Events included; kids’ outdoor forest school activities, indoor crafts, adult wood craft stalls and guided tree walks and talks. Friends of Sheffield Botanical Gardens held a plant sale as part of the event.
It was a pleasant surprise to meet so many supporters of Owlthorpe Heritage & Nature trail. Many of them are fully paid-up members of Sheffield & Rotherham wildlife trust also some are members of the Woodland Trust. Many could not understand the reasoning behind Sheffield (LPA) plan to build 150 New Homes in our oasis.
As I wandered around the event, I could not help thinking what would all attending this wonderful tree event think if a member of Sheffield (LPA) turned up and said the planning department had drawn up plans to build 150 New Properties in the middle of Sheffield Botanical Gardens. Do not worry they would not dare or wood they?
