Save our Wilmslow Community Sporting Clubs

Save our Wilmslow Community Sporting Clubs

The Issue

Everybody Leisure, a registered charity, have given various clubs at Wilmslow leisure centre 5 weeks' notice to move on, why, because they are expanding the gym. This impacts JM Taekwondo,  Jujitsu, Wilmslow Gymnastics, Tumble Tots and Freestyle Base Dancing.

This decision disproportionately impacts children.  With the obesity epidemic spiralling, you would think that giving kids a healthy start in life is more important than ever??!!

But these clubs are much more than healthy pursuits, they are COMMUNITIES, mixing of ages, passing of knowledge, respect, friendships, networks. We all know that loneliness and mental health are huge issues that are also escalating, and the sense of BELONGING these clubs bring to members is so precious, immeasurable really.   Also it impacts Wilmslow as a town - use of the shops, the cafes, the library, the Rex, etc etc as families come out of these clubs to run errands, socialise and shop.

Wilmslow Gynmastics has trained there for 41 years, JM Taekwondo for over 10, and they have been given until the end of the financial year to find new venues...!  This impacts hundreds of club members and their extended families.  Instead, Everybody leisure has decided that their metric is memberships, not community.

Even current gym users have commented that the gym isn't used terribly much, just needs new equipment and a deep clean.  Locally the preference seems to be keeping our clubs, and upgrading the swimming and changing facilities at the Leisure Centre.  Please note that there are lots and lots of other gym options available locally, not the large matted area that our community clubs need and share!

SIGN THIS PETITION TODAY.  Councillors from Cheshire East are meeting with Everybody Leadership w/c 06.03.23.

We want like to overturn the decision to give notice to clubs using the matted room

We would like a proper consultation with the local community

Thank you for your support!
