Save our wildlife so they can strive and thrive!

INTRODUCTION

After our recent trip to Rotoroa Island, we saw firsthand how important it is to ensure all native habitats and environments to strive and thrive. When we saw the extraordinary Takahe chicks it was an unforgettable moment that brought everyone joy and determination to protect the native wildlife species. It is important to inspire others to take action to conserve our native wildlife for future generations. But what is conservation? Conservation means being able to actively take action to protect and help our wildlife. When our year saw how crucial it is to save the environment and the animals that live in it, we now try our hardest to become guardians of the environment and leaders to the world.

PROTECTING NATIVE BIRDS

Our native birds like the Takahe and Kiwi have become endangered because of predators like rats, stoats and possums. Predators like these threaten the survival of these unreal birds, they attack the birds when they are young or in their eggs. Predators are a harm to native wildlife, not only do they kill animals but also ruin native plants. Predators are secondary and tertiary consumers on the food chain. One of the most harmful predators are possums. Reducing possum numbers are essential because they are very destructive and cause problems. A way that Rotoroa rangers protect the island are traps. The traps catch the predators and stop them from hurting the prey and keeping the native wildlife safe. Every small action we do can help these birds and can make a difference in their survival.

PROTECTING NATIVE HABITATS

Protecting natural habitats is so crucial and important. Why? Because these habitats are homes to native animals. New Zealand is trying to protect a very special tree-The Kauri tree. The Kauri tree is home to many birds like the
Tui. You might see Tui on Kauri branches standing tall and feeling proud. A system has been running through NZ, a system known as the shoe cleaning system. It works like this…

1.Brush shoe on the spiky brush

2.Spray the shoe with the water

3.Apply special soap

4.Spray the shoe with water

5.Brush once more

And then you are done!

The shoe cleaning system helps keep introduced insects away from the island and also helps take off any dirt or seeds that might be on your shoe. This ensures that the trees and animals stay safe and feel happy!

APPRECIATE WILDLIFE

Why should we appreciate wildlife? People think animals have a breezy life ... nope that is not true. Animals have to do very risky stuff to make sure that they can live life. One of the things that animals do to make sure they strive and thrive is feed on other animals. This is a way to make sure that they have enough food to live. The food chain is a big part of this system. Because producers like plants are the first in the food chain. Then primary consumers, secondary consumers, tertiary consumers and then the decomposers. Finally nature is not only animals and insects it is also trees, plants, mountains and more. We should always have appreciation for what these native things do for us. You might not realize but trees play a big role in our lives. Do you ever wonder where paper

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, I think that it is very important to look after our beautiful wildlife and the animals that live in it. Their Habitat is endangered and they are too. Every small action we do can help these native animals, birds, plants and can make a difference in their survival.
