Penrith Swimming Club has been part of our community since 1881. Now we need your support to help protect its future.

GLL has proposed that the club stops delivering its Learn to Swim provision at Penrith Leisure Centre.

Our provision is different from conventional swimming lessons. It introduces children to competitive swimming, developing the technique and skills they need to progress within the sport.

For generations, Penrith Swimming Club has given local children these opportunities. Our swimmers have competed at regional, national and international level, including the Olympic Games.

The club is run entirely by volunteers and has invested significantly in swimming in Penrith. In the 1990s, the club drove the campaign to build the teaching pool, raising tens of thousands of pounds to help make it possible. Today, we continue to spend around £40,000 every year on pool hire.

We want to work constructively with GLL and Westmorland and Furness Council to secure a solution.
