The Issue

For years, Gems AquaStars and Seachelle's swim school has been more than just a place where people learn to float or kick in the water. It’s been a sanctuary for babies to children, a place filled with laughter, growth, courage, and community spirit. Our dedicated and passionate teams has worked tirelessly to ensure that every lesson goes beyond mere instruction to offer support, safety, and a sense of accomplishment.

Unfortunately, a recent decision to remove our swim schools from the pool facilities at Thorpe St  Andrew High School threatens not only our ability to continue providing these vital lessons but also affects the livelihoods of our instructors and the families who depend on them. This decision will disrupt a nurturing environment for many swimmers, especially those with anxiety, special educational needs, or disabilities, whose families have come to trust our inclusive and supportive approach to swimming education. For many of our learners, we are a beacon of hope and progress, providing them a safe space to overcome their fears and embrace their abilities. The school are moving to a sole provider for the learn to swim programme removing all other swim schools that offer the same lessons. A one size fits all does not work for the families that come to us.

According to the Royal Life Saving Society UK, around 400 people accidentally drown in the UK every year, with thousands more suffering life-changing injuries. By teaching water safety and swimming skills from a young age, we are actively contributing to reducing these statistics and promoting life-saving knowledge.

We are therefore calling upon the community, parents and families, and advocates of our swim schools to stand with us in challenging this decision. Let’s ensure that our swim schools continues to shape lives, create opportunities, and foster a safe community environment.

Your signature today can help us try to restore our access to these facilities, securing the future of swimming lessons that teach more than just how to swim, they teach confidence, resilience, and independence.

Sign this petition to urge the School/Trust to reconsider their stance. Save our swim schools, and together, we can protect the invaluable benefits of community swimming lessons for everyone.
