Save our dogs : The mass displacement of stray dogs due to G-20.

The Issue

We are a group  of individuals dedicated to the welfare of street dogs in Delhi. In light of the G20 operations, a considerable number of sterilized dogs have been picked up illegally. These dogs are currently confined at various MCD run sterilization centers across Delhi, specifically in Dwarka Sector 29, Najafgarh (near Sai Baba Mandir), and near Kalindi Kunj.

It is with deep concern that we bring to your attention the distressing circumstances surrounding the capture of these dogs. The methods employed have been notably cruel, barbaric, and gruesome. Furthermore, their current living conditions at these sterilization centers are causing them immense suffering.

Street dogs in various areas of Delhi have been spotted screaming and yelping while being dragged by the neck using wires, and at times even picked up using garbage bags, by what usually looked like class 4 untrained workers before being bundled into vehicles. These dogs, including those with various diseases and disabilities, are then being kept at sterilization centers, often more than 100# in one room, where they suffer from overcrowding, inadequate living conditions, and communal defecation areas. These conditions lead to heightened stress, inter-dog conflicts, and exacerbate the distressing situation for these innocent animals.

In our collective effort to alleviate the pain endured by these animals, we humbly request your permission to visit them once daily for the purpose of providing sustenance in the form of food and other emergency supplies. Additionally, we kindly request that you consider releasing these dogs after notifying us, to ensure they are not relocated and are instead returned to their familiar territories.

We would like to emphasize that such acts of cruelty against animals are punishable under the Indian Penal Code. The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, specifically prohibits cruelty to animals and prescribes penalties for those found guilty of such offenses. It is essential that we uphold the principles of this legislation and ensure the well-being of these innocent creatures.

If we don't act now we would loose more than 1500 strays of from the streets of Delhi. These streeties have been lifted from the streets of Delhi in the wake of the recent preparations for the G-20 summit to be held in Delhi from 08-10 September. Their current situation is such that they are being kept in confinement, with worst then death like circumstances and handling. Let us save them before it is too late.

Your understanding and support in this matter would greatly contribute to the well-being of these animals and the humane treatment they rightfully deserve
