Dear Colleagues,

We’ve received word from ARDMS about MOC requirements—and, in effect, they’ve won that round. We’ve also engaged SDMS, proposing scan-time questionnaires via accrediting bodies. But unless and until those suggestions are adopted, we must take stronger action ourselves.

Yes, you can (and should) file complaints online using OSHA’s form OSHA-7:
OSHA Online Complaint Form
but that tool is for reporting unsafe conditions in workplaces. It cannot substitute for the formal route we must take to modify or create enforceable standards.

To compel OSHA to update or expand its protections under Section 6 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act, we need to submit a written petition with supporting evidence. This is how regulatory change happens: LETTER TO OSHA

We also note that in UPMC Pinnacle Hospitals v. Orlandi (2023), the court recognized that repetitive scanning workloads contribute to injury, and that performing 7–9 scans per day (in a properly managed schedule) was deemed sufficient in avoiding repetitive trauma in that context. That case strengthens our argument that enforceable limits are legally defensible.

We need your support—your name, your testimonial, your signature—so that OSHA cannot ignore us. Together, we can push for enforceable patient-load and exam-time standards that protect both sonographers and patients.

We will continue this mission and build momentum until our voices are heard and real change happens.
