Save Our School and Park Land at Gulf drive and Passion Ln.

The Issue

The Villages at Fairfield was built with the promise of a school and park at the corner of Gulf Drive and Passion Lane. For six years, we have paid taxes for this improvement area while waiting for these vital community spaces. Now, the City plans to approve the Parkside Project, adding 76 houses instead of delivering the promised school and park. This threatens our community by: Leaving kids with no safe place to play, forcing them onto busy streets. Increasing traffic and endangering children and seniors. Breaking the City’s commitment to residents. Once this land is lost, it can never be replaced. We urge Fairfield City Council to reject the Parkside Project and preserve the Gulf Dr./Passion Ln. site for its intended purpose — a school and park for our community. Public hearing for this is on 8th October at city hall

The following response from Mayor Coy was sent in reply to a discussion between the Vice Mayor and a supporter of the petition utilizing this email tool: Hi Madam Vice Mayor, Thank you for your response to Lauren. Yes, we need to determine if legal contracts were signed, and who made promises. From there, we can move forward. I will add that, while we don’t have power to tell the school district where to build schools, we can bridge the community with the district leaders, Lauren, thank you for contacting us! Enjoy your weekend. Faithfully Leading Fairfield, Catherine “Cat” Moy Mayor, City of Fairfield Cmoy@Fairfield.Ca.Gov

The following response from Vice Mayor Pam Bertani was sent in reply to one of these emails in support of the petition and shows that the Vice Mayor is engaged on he issue: Good Morning, THANK YOU for reaching out to me and Mayor Moy – much appreciated. Thanks also for bringing the collective community concerns to our attention. I personally was unaware that homeowners in the area were promised a school and park in the designated area. Can you tell me whether the promise to build a school and park is documented in a contract or other document when the homes were purchased? If possible, can you please provide me with this information – and any other documentation bearing on this issue? I look forward to working with you and the community in the coming days and weeks on this very important issue – and look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks again for your continued engagement. Very best regards, Pam Bertani Vice Mayor, City of Fairfield
