It’s early December… and we’ve reached a turning point.

Our petition to protect red squirrel habitats has grown from a spark of frustration into a nationwide movement – with nearly 70,000 of you now standing behind it.

But over the last week or so, signatures have slowed.

And the truth is: the red squirrels can’t afford for this campaign to stall now.

Woodland felling continues. Promises of “mitigation” vanish into silence. In some areas, no one is even checking what lives in the trees before they’re cleared.

 Some of you have also asked how else you can help. Thank you.

People have spoken of red squirrels as:

“bewitching, enchanting, and irreplaceable”
“a symbol of the wild that we are losing”
“a part of our childhood, our culture, our soul.”

Again and again, we’ve heard the same message:

🐿️ We cannot – must not – let them vanish.

This week I’ve also released a new children’s book – 'Little Red: Warrior Squirrel' – inspired by the petition and my lifelong love of reds.

It’s a gentle story of courage and connection, for the next generation of wildlife defenders.
