Hobsons Bay City Council is planning on redeveloping the Williamstown Swimming & Life Saving Club. While the club does need funds for an upgrade of the pool and life saving functions, the council’s current plans significantly alter the capabilities and culture of this beloved club, essentially removing any future “swimming” functionality. 

Councils current plans include:

1. Removal of the existing outdoor members pool. (incorrectly classifying it as an aquatic centre to justify demolition.)
2. Demolition of the existing Kiosk.  (To re classify as revenue for council instead of WSLSC revenue.)
3. Redistribution of WSLSC lawn for public use. (Moving the members lawn to a position without direct water visibility or access.)

As club members, we are strongly opposed to the council’s current redevelopment plans. We strongly oppose the plans to bulldoze the club pool, which has taught generations of local school kids how to swim, and provided an invaluable space for life savers and members to develop their water safety skills for the good of the entire community.

We are asking for immediate support from you in rejecting the council’s current concept plans. We want the funding provided to include the original scope of saving the pool and retaining all land currently used by WS&LSC.

We ask that everyone who also opposes the council’s current plans for WS&SLC please signs this petition. Help us show that member-based life saving clubs clubs should not be recklessly and irreparably altered by local council.
