Save Our Parks From Greedy Corporations - Repeal the Rule That Devalues Public Lands to $0
The Issue
America's public parks, wildlife, and federal buildings are not property to sell off at the expense of American taxpayers. The House of Representatives had no right without including American voters in on the decision to pass a new rule that devalues public lands & federal buildings to $0 so that they can sell it to oil companies, mining companies, or any other high paying investors. Currently, these rules apply to the US House of Representatives and effective immediately without the approval of the Senate, a presidential signature, or American taxpayers.
Previously, the US House of Representatives were required to calculate the 10-year revenue (grazing fees, oil and gas royalties) that the land would produce and offset those costs in other programs equal to the value of the land. By labeling all federal lands (parks, forests, and wildlife) and federal buildings to $0 that removes that budget requirement to the US treasury.
Alan Rowsome, senior government relations director for The Wilderness Society said:
“Right out of the gate, Congressional Republicans are declaring open season on federal lands. We’re not even a day into this new Congress and House Republicans are voting to give away our nation’s parks, forests, and refuges disguised in a budget rulemaking procedure. This is not Theodore Roosevelt-style governing, this move paves the way for a wholesale giveaway of our American hunting, fishing and camping lands that belong to us all. Make no mistake, the giveaway is for the benefit of the drilling and mining interests that have a lock-grip on Congress and the rest of Washington.”
