Save our Open Spaces-keep land development densities at 5 acres!

The Issue

Our local communities are being impacted by the extreme development happening in the Flathead Valley.  Out of state land developers are buying pieces of agricultural property and being allowed to subdivide and sell them for a large sum of money.  Guidelines and policies that were adopted to the Flathead County Master Plan by past County Commissioners are being changed.  These guidelines and policies were set to protect community members, our water sources, the wildlife, and the Montana way of life.
The Helena Flats Neighborhood Plan calls for 5 acre lot densities in areas from Amatasia Lane north to Pioneer Rd and from the Flathead River to Highway 2. An out of state Land Development Proposal was just approved by the Flathead Zoning and Planning Board that approved lots of 3.2 Acres in Glacier Flats Subdivisions. We need to set a precedent and keep the densities at 5 acres. The more these lots are shrunk up the more problems there will be in the future with water systems, septic issues, more traffic, wildlife, and wetlands. There will never be an end to these changes and the whole valley will be subdivided into tiny housing developments. Let’s make the 5 acre density a rule to be followed in this area.   Please sign this petition if you want to see land preserved in this area of our beautiful valley.
