Overturn CT HB 6004

The Issue

Overturn CT House Bill 6004 signed by Governor Ned Lamont and almost exclusively supported by fellow Democratic legislators, which now encourages frivolous lawsuits against Connecticut police officers and correction officers, both good and bad. Baseless claims now place good police officers in financial jeopardy.  It will cause police officers to hesitate and second guess split second decisions that could cost their lives or those of innocent victims.  This bill will result in defunding police and the taxpayers of Connecticut, while frivolous lawsuits proliferate.  Officers will retire at record levels and replacing them will be more difficult than ever before. The consequences of this legislation will be increased crime, lack of proactive policing, diminished interest in becoming a police officer and the encouragement of disrespect for police officers.  This legislation will result in reactionary, not proactive policing which jeopardizes the safety of all Connecticut citizens. Sadly, the effects of this legislation will have a disproportionate impact on inner cities.

This petition was started by Retired Chief of Police Richard A Klett who led the Newington Police Department during the time of the Newington Lottery Shootings. He spent over 29 years working in law enforcement.
