The Issue

Our community on the west side of Chicago is facing a critical health care crisis. The recent closing of West Suburban Hospital has left our neighborhood without essential women’s health and maternal care services. For many families, the absence of this institution means lengthy, costly journeys to far-off hospitals just to access the care every woman and newborn deserves.

West Suburban Hospital played a vital role in providing accessible healthcare to underserved populations. Many of our community’s residents are already struggling with transportation and financial challenges. Closing this hospital further marginalizes them, pushing quality healthcare out of reach and exacerbating existing inequalities.

We call upon local government officials and healthcare administrators to take immediate, tangible action to reinstate comprehensive women’s and maternal health care services on the west side of Chicago. This includes reopening West Suburban Hospital or establishing a new healthcare facility in its place. It is imperative that all families, regardless of their economic status or zip code, have access to the health care they need close to home.

Ensuring access to local medical care is not only a matter of public health but a question of human rights and equality. We deserve a community where health care is a given, not a privilege.

Please sign this petition to urge our leaders to restore and preserve life-saving health care services in our area. Together, we can ensure that the future generations of west side Chicagoans are born into a community that values and safeguards their health and well-being right from the start.
