Save Our Hoxton Community Basketball Court

The Issue

Joe White Gardens is an active social community of basketball players in Hoxton with over 270 formal members and a great many more who use this space informally. Our community includes young people learning the sport, people trying to keep fit, former and current pros, coaches and many more, but it is currently under threat.

The large tree threatens to destroy the court and the facilities are outdated and have even lead to injuries. We want to make the court safer, better and improve the civic realm at the same time.

Hackney Council have backed our plans and are applying for funding, but we want to show the funding body how much this court means to our local community.

The petition is key to showing that this court, a cornerstone of an underfunded central London community is as loved as we know it is. We want to preserve this facility for the future of our local community and the sport in the UK whilst also making sure residents see improvements in the local park.

We recently put together some plans to update the court. which you can access here which outlines the plan and shows how we can make this court work as an amazing asset for the whole community by improving the public realm!
