Our Former Housing Manager Katherine Long, is a dedicated, responsible, and caring Residental Life staff member from the University at Albany's Residental Life Department. She was recently terminated from her position unfairly, this termination came as a result of HM Kat exercising her right to self-defense during an unprovoked attack. The decision impacts not only her livelihood but also the lives of her (former) residents, as well as possibly generates fear among her former co-workers about their right to protect themselves.

According to the National Crime Prevention Council, all individuals have the legal right to self-defense when perceived in immediate harm. Kat’s dismissal is an infringement on this right, and an unfortunate precedent for other employees who may find themselves in threatening circumstances.

In light of this, we implore the immediate reinstatement of HM Kat in her role as Housing Manager, as well as have her probation overturned. It is essential to fight for justice, correct this wrongful termination, and uphold the fundamental right to self-defense.
