Save our green space and wildlife at Whittlesea Public Gardens

The issue

As a local resident of Whittlesea, the proposed development plan to build 25 double story townhouses directly behind my home on the downs road reserve and Whittlesea public gardens  is detrimental to my serenity, our local ecosystem, and our community's unique character. These infrastructures will be constructed mere metres away from my fence, disrupting our tranquil environment. For decades, our neighbourhood has thrived amidst the backdrop of the verdant Downs Road Reserve and Whittlesea Public Gardens, with unique and endangered wildlife being part of our daily lives.

Hundreds of trees and numerous vegetation that have taken years to grow cover the area proposed for development. If this project proceeds, we stand to lose not just the greenery, but also our local wildlife – various species of birds often heard in song, endangered species of frogs, blue-tongue lizards that roam our backyards, and kangaroos, that often hop around freely.

Sadly, despite the protests from residents directly affected by this build, our local council seems to have turned a blind eye to the potential harm, and is considering approving this project. It is our pride and duty to protect and conserve the beauty of our public gardens In Lalor. We request the City of Whittlesea council to reconsider this decision and protect our beloved public gardens, our home, and the diverse ecosystem that has made Whittlesea a home to many. We implore you, please sign this petition and help us halt this unnecessary development.
