SAVE OUR GREEN SPACE ALONG THORNTON-CLEVELEYS SEA FRONT
The Issue
Balfour Beatty are seeking to obtain planning permission to erect a compound on the green space shown below to house heavy lifting/digging equipment and high stacks of large boulders for the next phase of the sea defence work.
Whilst no one is opposed to this essential work, no consideration has been given to how this will affect those who use the green on a daily basis and the day to day living for many years to come for local residents. They would be subjected to considerable noise in the daytime, from very early morning until late evening, unable to open balcony doors and windows in the summer months due to noise and dust pollution, plus bright floodlights in the compound at night.
All residents within Wilvere Court are opposed to this compound being erected, including elderly residents, many of whom do not leave their homes very often and their only view of the outside world is from their front window. If planning permission is granted, their only view would be traffic, passing trams and a large wooden fence housing equipment and high stacks of boulders, which will cause unnecessary stress and upset for everyone.
It is estimated that the proposed Compound 2 would be in situ for a minimum of 2 years but possibly 4 years, if not more!
The view from the properties on Queens Promenade will be similar to that shown below. This photo shows the site already in place at Jubilee Gardens, a short 5-minute drive from Little Bispham tram stop. Why can’t this site continue to be used?
