Due to school closures, my son was emotionally and physically traumatized at a school not of our choice, and never recovered.  He's  been learning online for over 5 years.  His suffering continues with ongoing learning loss in many areas of his development.   There's no safe place with proper supports available, needing to be in a safe, & nurturing environment to best thrive.  

This is not just our story; but the story of many families within the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD). Our most vulnerable students, particularly disabled Black students, are disproportionately affected by these issues. According to data from the National Center for Education Statistics, Black students with disabilities are more likely than their peers to face disciplinary actions that remove them from classrooms where they could be learning.

We call on OUSD not only to mandate a loving environment for all children but take immediate actions to protect our most vulnerable disabled Black students.  We ask that added support be given to ALL students  through Consistent Mandated Music and Arts education, while Reinforcing Love through Positive Language.     This Ensures fair disciplinary practices that will not disproportionately affect these students. 

We ask that OUSD create an inclusive environment where every child can thrive. 🎹🎨 🎼
