We, the residents of Redmond, Sammamish, and nearby communities, are deeply concerned about the announced closure of the Fred Meyer store in Redmond.

This Fred Meyer is more than just a grocery store — it is a pharmacy, a source of affordable goods, and a community hub that thousands of families rely on every day. Its closure will especially hurt seniors, families with children, and residents without easy access to alternatives.

We understand that Kroger, Fred Meyer’s parent company, must consider profitability. But we believe solutions can be found. We call on Kroger leadership, the City of Redmond, the City of Sammamish, and our Washington State legislators to work together to:

1. Address theft and safety concerns with stronger community and law enforcement support.
2. Explore city or state-level measures that make continued operation viable.
3. Ensure uninterrupted pharmacy and grocery access for residents.
