A senior forest official recently shared how he and his team stood helplessly and watched a peahen burn alive while sitting on her eggs in one of the many forest fires that have destroyed millions of animals, birds and other species in HP and Uttarakhand (including for forest officials in Uttarakhand recently.) Most of these fires are man-made. 877 cases have been registered in Himachal (against 20 last year) and 350 in Uttarakhand with no action even on named individuals. FACTS:
In HIMACHAL PRADESH alone, 1,684 forest fires have destroyed 17,471 hectares of forest land, resulting in significant loss to wildlife since April 15, 2024.

In UTTARAKHAND, there have been more than 900 incidents of forest fires damaging at least 1,100 hectares of forest land in the last 6 months. Over 350 cases have been registered related to "man-made" forest fires, implicating 59 named individuals and 290 unidentified suspects.

WE WANT ACTION Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change: Please stop attributing them to the weather conditions. We all know that most of them are man-made. We demand nothing short of capital punishment or life imprisonment for this barbarous act. This is nothing short of homicide and mass murder of precious species including 4 Forest officials in Uttarakhand recently.
