Save Our Field: Stop Development Behind Hawthorn Park, Swanley (BR8 7FB)

The Issue

We, the residents of Hawthorn Park, Archer Way and the surrounding areas in Swanley, are calling on Sevenoaks District Council to protect the open field behind Hawthorn Park (BR8 7FB) from being built on.

This much-loved field — once part of the Green Belt — has now been reclassified as “Grey Belt,” putting it at risk of future development.

In 2023, the Council conducted another SHELAA (Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment) for this field and published that it is classed as Grade 2 agricultural land. Due to the constrained nature of the site, the Council concluded it is not considered suitable for development.

It’s a vital part of our community: a place where children play, wildlife thrives, and nature provides peace and fresh air for everyone.

Building here would:

🌳 Destroy a beautiful green space that our community relies on.

🚗 Add pressure to already congested local roads and infrastructure.

🐦 Harm wildlife and natural habitats.

💧 Increase flood risk due to loss of natural drainage.

We urge Sevenoaks District Council to:

1️⃣ Reject any proposals to rezone or approve development on this land.

2️⃣ Protect the field as open green space for community wellbeing.

3️⃣ Reconsider its “Grey Belt” reclassification in the next Local Plan review.

📅 Important:

Any formal objections to the proposed plans must be submitted to Sevenoaks District Council between 23rd October and the beginning of December.

This petition will be presented at the Council’s pop-up meeting on 5th November, which I will be attending on behalf of local residents to ensure our voices are heard.

This land is part of Swanley’s identity and should be preserved for future generations — not lost to development.

✍️ Please sign and share to help us show the Council how much our community cares about protecting this space.

Every signature counts. Together, we can keep Hawthorn Park green and safe. 🌿
