The dining halls at UVA used to be a space of rest, a space that offered a sanctuary from the busy and strenuous academic atmosphere at Mr. Jefferson’s University. One could find peace sitting at UVA’s various dining facilities, enjoying the relaxing vibe created through the use of music within these spaces.

Recently, UVADine has made the decision to implement so called “Radio Ads” that showcase the services provided by UVADine within its dining facilities. While it is important that students are informed of the various choices and programs available to them, the format of this being radio ads is unacceptable. 

These ads arbitrarily cut off the music, in the middle of a song, without warning and are more of an annoyance than actually being helpful. The auditory bombardment that students face from these ads ruin the atmosphere of the dining halls, preventing these spaces from being places of rest or solace.

We implore UVADine to remove these radio advertisements immediately from UVA’s dining facilities and work to come up with a solution that does not detract from the dining experience.
