Petition: Save Our Community Parklet – Demand Accountability from the City of Greater Geelong

To: The City of Greater Geelong and Mayor Stretch Kontelj

We, the undersigned, stand in support of LOCAL and its beloved parklet—a vibrant community space that has brought people together, supported local businesses, and enriched our city.

Despite full compliance with the City of Greater Geelong's requirements, including safety audits and approved designs, the city has taken unjust actions:

• Canceling permits and issuing fines for a previously approved structure.
• Ignoring repeated requests for open dialogue and community consultation.
• Forcibly removing the parklet without warning or proper process
• This pattern of behavior is not just an attack on LOCAL but a dismissal of our community’s voice and a failure of transparency and accountability.

This is unacceptable. The parklet is more than a dining space—it’s a symbol of community and resilience. We call on the City of Greater Geelong to:

1. Stop further actions against LOCAL's parklet.
2. Commit to transparent and meaningful discussions with LOCAL and the community.
3. Reassess the parklet’s removal, respecting the community’s overwhelming support.
