We, the residents of Flagler Beach and friends, stand united in opposition to the proposed sale of our beloved Flagler Beach Golf Course to its current lessee, whose neglect and poor management have already caused harm to this vital piece of our community. This beloved green space, home to a rich diversity of wildlife, is more than just a golf course - it is a sanctuary, a neighborhood hub, and a crucial part of what makes Flagler Beach unique.

The current lessee has failed to maintain property during their two-year tenancy, it implies us that their intentions to buy it are driven by profit, not for our community. They originally plan five-year extensive construction and development which include a large event center and drastic landscaping changes.

The sale of shy of 40 acres' golf course for about $800,000 to the lessee's partner, who is a developer, might risk transforming it into housing development in the future like nearby golf courses in Flagler county.

We demand that our city leaders find a responsible solution for the future of our land. Instead of selling to an irresponsible tenant, the city should explore alternatives that protect this space for future generations - including preserving it as protected land, responsible tenant to operate golf course, or repurposing it into a community park.

The time to act is now. The City Commission is set to vote on this issue again. We must show them that the people of Flagler Beach and friends will not stand by as they make decisions that will forever change the character of our town.
