While we didnt get everything we wanted, as the Council solicitors said in an email - we got more than the Council wanted to give us.
There remain questions to be asked about the cost of the rent compared to other community venues or the lack of funding for Bedworth when Nuneaton has the museum, we think we got the best deal possible which would allow us to get into the building and get the doors back open. The insurance is now £3,000 a year, we have a free rent period, and a lot of work is being done.
We've all worked incredibly hard to get to this point. We thank the community volunteers who made this happen through hard work and perserverance. This shows the power of community powered volunteering.
After the Council couldnt afford to keep the Civic Hall open, we came together as a community to offer an alternative run the Civic Hall for the Community by the Community.
Over the next two years we will reopen and bring back all the old, with lots of new as part of our vision for building a better Bedworth and Borough through the Civic Hall. They often book a few years ahead, but we will get big acts bag and we may even have some already secured.
We will deliver our ACT ONE programme of events and activities which is the begining of a new story for the Civic Hall, that will make a difference to residents from SEND pupils, to families, to older people and the whole community, while saving tax payers any of the costs they used to pay for the building so the Council can use this in better ways.
