Save our Car Meets at the High Falls Garage

The Issue

Earlier this year, the popularity of our car meets in the City of Rochester have increased exponentially. Our meets allow enthusiasts and families to share their rides, meet new friends, and enjoy their passion in a safe and controlled environment without financial barrier.

To many, automobiles are simply a method of transportation. But for some however, they’re a passion project, a piece of art or an extension of personality. Cars are an outlet for many, an escape from the stressors and mental hardships that come with day to day life. They are also a gateway into an accepting community. Rochester is a culturally diverse area, and the passion for automobiles runs deep throughout the city and suburbs for so many. From Lyell Ave to Park Ave, from Syracuse to Buffalo, all of those who have been able to attend share the same passion and love for the rides that gather.

Recently, we’ve been forced to relocate due to reasonable concerns from the city. Although we’ve engaged in some successful and ongoing conversations about improving our relationship and navigating concerns, we want to show the City of Rochester how much this space and these meets mean to us.

By signing this petition, you’re pledging to follow the rules of the garage and refrain from excessive noise or dangerous activities, as well as agreeing to speak up and encourage anyone you see engaging these activities to refrain from doing so. You agree to arrive, park your vehicle and turn it off.

After all, the garage is free to park on the weekends, so what’s the issue with parking our cars? With no businesses in the area of High Falls open at night, the garage remains empty and unused. Why not offer an opportunity for individuals to gather and enjoy themselves free of judgment?

Not everyone understands our passion, our community, or the positive outcomes that come from our meets.

The scene will never stop. Let’s work together to get back a safe environment to share our passion, and break the stigma of car enthusiasts in Rochester.

(Please refrain from using this space until further notice)

This city has much greater problems to pursue than our low, loud, colorful rides.
