The Issue

The mature trees in our neighborhood are not just part of our landscape; they're a vital piece of our daily lives and contribute significantly to our local canopy. These trees offer shade, cleanse our air, and provide essential habitats for local wildlife. While we completely support the city's efforts to upgrade our stormwater drainage systems to handle flooding more effectively, we believe that technological advances should not force us into a false choice between making infrastructure progress and preserving our natural environment.

This issue isn't just a matter of sustainability for us; it's deeply personal. We spent countless moments enjoying their beauty and the ecological benefits they provide. As an integral part of our community, they offer refuge and sustenance to a variety of bird species and small mammals who are crucial for maintaining our ecological balance. Modern engineering solutions can address our neighborhood's flooding issues without compromising our cherished green spaces. At 41st and Bahnson the current proposal includes clear cutting 140 trees :(

We urge the city planners and local government to consider implementing a low-impact drainage plan that takes into account the preservation of our tree canopy. Effective and innovative drainage solutions exist that can manage stormwater without damaging the environment. Not only reduce runoff but also allow us to preserve our beautiful trees and protect our local wildlife habitats.

By investing in sustainable drainage solutions, we can demonstrate that progress doesn't have to come at the cost of environmental degradation. We appeal to the decision-makers to prioritize ecological preservation alongside infrastructure improvements.

Join us in sending a strong message to our local government. Let's advocate for a stormwater management plan that both safeguards our homes from flooding and conserves our cherished natural habitats. Sign the petition today to support a prosperous future where development and nature coexist harmoniously.
