Save our buses! Fight First Bus changes to Todmorden services

Save our buses! Fight First Bus changes to Todmorden services
The Issue
We oppose the reductions in services made by First Bus to the 590 and 592 bus routes through Todmorden and call for buses on these routes to run at least two per hour.
Bus services along Todmorden’s main roads are inadequate. Residents rely on buses for a variety of reasons, whether to get to school or work, to go shopping or to make a medical appointment. Some young families are reliant on buses to take their children to and from nursery, while others catch a bus to meet with friends and family. Whatever the purpose, for many of us travelling by bus is essential.
590
The 590 route connects our valley to Rochdale. When once it ran from Walsden to Hebden Bridge and Halifax, it has for some time now terminated at central Todmorden, cutting the top end of our valley off. Meanwhile, the reduced hourly rate has drastically restricted people’s ability to go about their day-to-day lives. The reinstatement of the through-route from Rochdale to Halifax is long overdue, but that must be accompanied by a return to a twice-hourly bus service.
592
Cornholme and Portsmouth are reliant on buses more than most. A lack of a train station combined with increases in planned housing developments proves that better buses are needed to serve our community. Without a car, the only real alternative is a reliable service that enables people in these villages to reach their destinations in Todmorden and beyond. The decision to replace the 592 with a reduced hourly bus service outside peak times is unacceptable and must not go ahead.
Call to action
We call on First Bus to stop their planned reduction of bus services to one per hour between Burnley and Halifax, and to reinstate the Rochdale to Halifax service to two buses per hour; and furthermore, call on Calderdale Council to endorse this petition, thereby showing that they represent the views of the people whose voices must be heard.
