The Issue

I have spent some of the most formative years of my life at a school that’s more than just a building; it’s a community that shaped me into the person I am today. This school in New Port Richey, FL, not only holds cherished memories of my own childhood but continues to be a cornerstone for my children's education. That’s why I am devastated to hear of its impending closure.

My children currently attend this elementary school, just like I did years ago. It breaks my heart to think that they might not experience the same halls filled with laughter and learning, creating lifelong friendships and foundational life skills right where I did. Closing this school doesn't just shift my family’s world; it affects many other families who have woven their lives around this institution.

Alarmingly, the decision to close has been made without an adequate explanation or transparent communication from the authorities. We, as a community, deserve to understand the reasons behind this drastic move, and more importantly, we deserve an opportunity to act before it’s too late.

Research shows that school closures harm student outcomes, leading to disruptions in learning, increased commuting times, and stress on displaced students. A National Education Policy Center report highlights that closure often hits hardest in close-knit communities like ours, where schools play an integral role beyond education.

We propose that the district takes immediate steps to:
1. Provide a thorough and transparent explanation of the factors leading to this closure.
2. Engage and collaborate with parents, teachers, and community members to explore alternative solutions that keep our school operational.
3. Explore funding sources or partnerships that could help alleviate financial strains or redevelop unused spaces to benefit the community.

This school is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about the vibrant, nurturing community it houses and the futures it shapes. Every family here in New Port Richey shares a stake in this cause. We are calling on you, our district administrators and school board members, to listen to those who are the heartbeat of this school before making any irreversible decisions.

Please sign this petition to help us save our beloved elementary school. Our community’s legacy and future depend on it. Join us in fighting for a solution that keeps our children growing up in the same supportive environment we cherished.

Every signature counts in making a persuasive case to the authorities and hopefully reversing this decision. Let’s ensure our voices resound loud and clear in New Port Richey. Sign now and share your support!
