The Issue

The ridges of the Ozark Mountains are being threatened by the installation of massive wind turbines, some rising nearly 700 feet, that pose a grave risk to our ancient Ozarks. Please sign today to protect our ridges in the Ozarks. These majestic mountains have stood the test of time, nurturing diverse ecosystems and sustaining communities throughout history. Now, they face a challenge that demands our immediate attention and action.

Our beautiful Ozark Mountains are not just picturesque landscapes; they are home to fragile karst terrains with connected water aquifers. These unique geological formations are incredibly sensitive to disruptions, making them particularly vulnerable to the construction activities associated with industrial wind turbines. Blasting, heavy machinery, and deep foundations could cause irreparable harm to these terrains, leading to sinkholes, groundwater contamination, and endangering the very ecosystems that make the Ozarks so special.

Moreover, our rural communities, who have relied on these natural landscapes for generations, are at risk. The introduction of massive wind turbines in Carroll County will alter the character of our community, disrupt local wildlife habitats, and negatively affect surrounding property values.  The promise of renewable energy should not come at such a high cost to our environment and way of life. Alternative sites and methods that do not compromise our natural heritage or the well-being of our communities must be considered. This petition will go to the Governor. Help us protect the Ozark Mountains by urging local and state authorities to halt the installation of industrial-scale wind turbines on our ridges. Sign this petition to demand thoughtful and responsible planning that reflects the true value of our natural landscapes. NOTE: Recent image from Nimbus Wind Farm being built on the highest ridge in Carroll County, AR. Other areas of NW Arkansas under immediate threat are Washington County and Searcy County.
