Each year the rain, exasperated by misuse by 4x4 vehicles during the winter months, creates deep ruts in the local byways making use by horse riders and walkers unsafe. This year the erosion of the surface from the Alkham Valley Road up to the Pimlico / Everden split is now so damaged that there are deep trenches and the base chalk layer is showing in places.
