Save Our After-school Theatre Program at Livermore High School

Dear LVJUSD,

We the students and parents affiliated with the arts at livermore are very concerned. We all love that Livermore High School has strong reputation of its musical and theatre programs. However, the challenge of timing theatre productions to fit within the rigid school day is limiting our ability to foster creativity and develop high-quality performances. Meeting for only an hour and a half every other day does not create a successful environment to cultivate the beautiful musicals and plays we aspire to produce.

Theatre arts education has proven benefits. According to the National Association for Music Education, participation in arts programs can enhance academic performance and promote collaboration. We therefore advocate for the inclusion of a "0" or "9th" period, solely dedicated to theater productions and preparations.

Livermore High School has a rich tradition in theatre arts, celebrated by the community and the families of the students involved. It is vital that we preserve and cultivate our creative culture by providing adequate time and resources for our thespians to thrive. For 39 Years we have had an additional class added, why should that change now?

Another vital program, the Jazz program, is being very negatively affected as well. The national-award winning band used to meet outside of the school day as well, now being limited to only during the 8 periods we have. Participation has been cut in half and at this rate the program will disappear entirely. Please do not let this happen.

We call upon the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District in Livermore, CA, USA to reconsider the scheduling approach for theatre arts. Let's support our young artists, promote educational diversity, and continue to build the reputation of our district as a champion for the arts. Students should NOT have to choose between an academic class and an arts class. Please sign this petition and make a difference in supporting arts education at Livermore High School.
