During a recent highly publicized speech at the aptly named “Empire Club”, Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Eric Hoskins assured the people of Ontario that he plans to turn our imploding health care system into one that is more cost-effective and patient-centered. The facts, however, reveal a very different story: Dr. Hoskins DOES NOT CARE WHAT THE PEOPLE OF ONTARIO WANT AND IS POISED TO MAKE OUR HEALTH CARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN EVER! Dr. Hoskins has received two legal letters requesting his attention to the matter of unconstitutional legislative amendments that will facilitate the takeover of all treatments by psychotherapists. NO RESPONSE! Hon. Dr. Hoskins has been advised of the almost 7,000 petition signees who oppose the travesty being forced on them. NO RESPONSE! Hon. Dr. Hoskins has been made aware of the many hundreds of public comments expressing fear and outrage around the pending loss of freedoms to choose their own practitioners. NO RESPONSE! Hon. Dr. Hoskins, our elected official, is silent on how this legislative sneak-attack by lobby groups and unelected bureaucrats all came about, or why our taxpayer dollars are funding the removal of residents' freedoms. Hon. Dr. Hoskins has been provided government statistics that not only fail to support his Ministry’s pretext that psychotherapists should be ‘protecting’ people from natural, holistic, traditional and spiritual treatments, but which demonstrate the superior safety of these treatments – treatments that the public is freely choosing to pay out-of-pocket for. NO RESPONSE! Hon. Dr. Hoskins has been provided letters from Ontario residents who almost died at the hands of conventional mental health treatments, but who survived precisely because they used the very holistic, traditional, energy and spiritual care approaches his Ministry is now quietly working to eliminate. NO RESPONSE! Hon. Dr. Hoskins refuses to acknowledge that the public pays-out-of-pocket for their treatments from holistic, traditional, energy and spiritual care practitioners and therefore he has no right to tell them how to spend their money. Hon. Dr. Hoskins refuses to acknowledge the fact that there is NO LOGIC whatever in forcing the public to see psychotherapists, psychologists or psychiatrists against their will, except that it slows the hemorrhaging of profits from the medical/pharmaceutical cartel coffers. Hon. Dr. Hoskins also refuses to acknowledge the statistics that prove that the natural treatments he plans to eliminate SAVED the taxpayer-funded health care system approximately $8 Billion annually up to 2006 when the last Fraser Institute was released. That amount is expected to double every ten years! Yet, during his Empire Club speech, he emphasized how he had to find cost-cutting measures and talked about a whole slew of vague ‘actions’ he planned to take to save a few million here and a few million there. Hon. Dr. Hoskins lamented during his speech that some 900,000 Ontario residents were without a family doctor and that fewer people were choosing to go into medicine. He attributed these statistics to the lack of funding of doctors in outlying areas and the decreasing earnings of doctors. However the statistics suggest that many of those 900,000 without a conventional GP may well be choosing not to have one and that potential medical students may be recognizing that a medical degree would make them nothing more than high-priced salespersons enslaved to Big Pharma and thus unable to refer to non-drug treatments or really help patients. Anyone can see that once psychotherapy, psychiatry and psychology are the only options for treating our mental and emotional challenges, death and disability will increase, access to effective care will be non-existent and few will get well because the system relies on its illness-creation model to survive. The Minister of Health agreed with a Toronto Star reporter that his ministry was a ‘mess’. It is rotten, corrupt and totally unresponsive to what the public wants more of… free, non-coerced, fully-informed choice. We want the elected officials of our democracy to ensure protection of our Constitutional rights and freedoms from bureaucratic and lobby group attacks.
