SAVE OLD MAGNOLIA OPPOSITION TO DEVELOPMENT OF LAND TO MAKE WAY FOR WALMART SUPERCENTER
The Issue
OPPOSITION TO DEVELOPMENT OF LAND TO MAKE WAY FOR WALMART SUPERCENTER AND APARTMENTS
To: Mayor Chris Blair and The Magnolia City Council
From: Residents of Magnolia, Texas
Our Position
We do not want our community to be made into another metropolitan city.
The residents of Old Magnolia oppose the development of additional homes, apartments, and big-box retail that would overwhelm the character and capacity of our community.
The proposed Walmart Supercenter and adjacent apartment complex planned for the property on FM 1488 behind Walgreens represents irresponsible growth. Replacing open land with more asphalt and concrete would increase heat, intensify the urban heat island effect, and place additional pressure on Old Magnolia’s infrastructure, public services and first responders.
Residents are concerned that this level of development would bring increased traffic and safety concerns. Old Magnolia should not be asked to absorb growth that outpaces the community’s ability to manage it responsibly.
Big-box stores often make it harder for small, locally owned businesses to survive. Old Magnolia’s local businesses are part of the community’s identity, and they should not be pushed aside by large-scale development.
Residents of Old Magnolia should not be dismissed or told to simply accept this as inevitable growth. We believe our community is worth protecting, and we are prepared to stand together to preserve the character, safety, and quality of life that make Old Magnolia home.
If you share these concerns and want to help protect Old Magnolia from becoming overdeveloped, please sign the petition and add your voice to this effort.
Thank you for your support.
