We the undersigned stand against Senator Cirino's Senate Bill 83 Ohio Higher Education Enhancement Act for numerous reasons: 

---It is an attack on academic freedom and the responsibility to teach and learn the truth about our nation's history. 

---SB 83 prohibits teaching about topics such as social justice, racism, gender identity, and climate change because these are considered "controversial." 

---The bill attacks tenure which traditionally includes rigorous review and expectations of faculty. 

---It creates a flawed and unfair faculty evaluation process. 

---It refuses to recognize the need for diversity on our campuses and in our workplaces by prohibiting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and training. 

---It promotes isolationism and discrimination by refusing Ohio universities the right to admit Chinese students. 

---By eliminating the ability to strike, SB 83 stacks the deck against workers in the State of Ohio. 

SB 83 will deprive our students of a top-quality education; will deprive Ohio businesses and industries of well-educated workers; and will make our state a less-desirable place in which to live and work.

Senator Cirino has stated that he wants to fast-track this bill. The time to act is now!
