Save Oglebay Park Deer: Stop the Bow and Arrow Deer Culling!
The Issue
The undersigned, as either a resident of Ohio County, WV, or visitor, are opposed to the bow and arrow hunt killing of tame deer at Oglebay Park, scheduled for Nov. 6-8, 2023. It is well established this herd of deer are frequently hand fed and are tame. We seek a deer overpopulation study, welfare study and impact study on the park's eco system, to be requested with the WV Dept of Natural Resources. We seek public disclosure of a comprehensive study as well as non-lethal methods such as contraception or relocation programs.
There will likely be deer injuries from the proposed method that then would create unnecessary suffering and unintended consequences, potentially posing a further hazard or threat to public safety and animal welfare.
