We petition the Pacifica School District Board to reject the Budget Collaborative Committee's Recommendation to relocate Ocean Shore School’s K-5 students to another site and losing our 6-8 students. We are also asking them to reconsider the closure of the middle school program on another site.

Reasons for our opposition:

• Relocating Ocean Shore School students to two separate sites is effectively a school closure, dismantling a beloved and unique 50-year K-8 program that provides a nurturing environment for project-based learning and whole school collaboration, including K-8 students, staff, parents, and community members.
• If the Board adopts the Recommendation, they are effectively voting to close Ocean Shore School without complying with the multiple school closure requirements in the Education Code, CEQA (requiring environmental impact analysis), and Assembly Bill 1912’s (requiring an equity impact analysis before school closure), thereby opening up the district to additional litigation because it has not complied with any of those school closure requirements.

We urge the Board to reject the recommendation to close Ocean Shore, and instead direct the Budget Collaborative Committee to explore and propose alternatives that do not involve closing our K-8 programs in Pacifica School District.
