The Issue

Growing up, I spent many weekends at the Oasis Beach Pool in Bedford. It wasn't just a place to swim; it was where memories were made. Now, as a parent, I'm able to share that joy with my own children. This beloved facility is not just a cherished childhood memory but also a vital place for fun and health for current and future generations. The Oasis Beach Pool is the only public pool in the area equipped with slides and a wave machine. It's a beacon of enjoyment for families from Bedford and surrounding regions. Shutting it down would mean losing a critical leisure spot that gathers communities and creates memories.

The pool isn't just recreational; it is a significant part of Bedford's heritage since it opened in 1991, 34 years ago. Despite its age, the facility remains popular and relevant, attracting visitors from neighboring areas, which in turn supports the local economy. Last November, the local government invested £330,000 in renovating the leisure center. Considering this significant investment, shutting down the pool would be a non-sensible waste of public funds.

We must come together to urge our local officials to reconsider any plans leading to the closure of the Oasis Beach Pool. Instead, there should be strategies focused on promoting the facility, encouraging more visitors, and ensuring maintenance and operations continue seamlessly. The community's spirit and memories are strongly tied to this pool and we have a responsibility to preserve it for ourselves and future generations.

Please join me in urging Bedford's local government to reconsider any closure plans by signing this petition. Our collective voices can make a difference in keeping this treasured community gem alive for years to come.
