Save Nova from Unjust Euthanasia at Dogwatch

The issue

Nova is my favourite dog at Dogwatch. She is smart and very loving, although she presents to new people with fear. However, the correct introductions ensure that she is always safe. As a former staff member, I am deeply frustrated to learn that Nova is being considered for euthanasia, labeled as 'unsafe' to rehome. This decision comes despite her only having had one bite incident—a bite that occurred just four days into settling into a new home. This single incident which happened 8 months ago should not define her fate. Moreover, Dogwatch has a history of successfully rehabilitating and safely rehoming dogs with a higher bite risk than Nova.

Nova's situation highlights a worrying possibility that Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust might consider euthanizing more long-term dogs, a direct contradiction to their very ethos and policy on euthanasia. This is especially concerning when there are enthusiastic potential adopters willing to undertake intensive pre-adoption or foster-to-adopt processes. There is an eager adopter ready to work with Nova, which shows that all options have not been thoroughly explored.

What we are witnessing here is not just about Nova but also about maintaining the moral integrity of Dogwatch as a sanctuary. If they proceed with euthanizing Nova, it's tantamount to abandoning long-term residents instead of upholding the sanctuary's commitment to find loving homes for every dog, irrespective of how long it takes.

Nova deserves a chance to be part of a loving family, and the processes that could facilitate this adoption was already in motion until today. To take away her chance of happiness and security, without exhausting all available measures and opportunities, would be unjust.

It is crucial to stand against this decision to euthanize Nova. Let's protect her and the other long-term residents of Dogwatch by urging them to live up to their mission as a sanctuary. Please join me in calling for Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust to halt their decision to euthanize Nova and instead explore every possible adoption avenue available. We must act now; raise your voice to save Nova from an unjust fate. Sign this petition and help give Nova the life she truly deserves.
