The Issue

North Plains City Council Members,

I am writing to urge you to appoint a Mayor who truly reflects the will of the people and serves the community first.

Two of the current applicants are absolutely unacceptable:

Russ Sheldon was already rejected by voters in the last election. He has consistently dismissed community voices,  and the will of the people doesn’t matter to him when it comes to the Urban Growth Boundary or other issues.
David Hatcher, a former Mayor, has been a vocal advocate for massive UGB expansion and has shown a pattern of hostility and divisiveness.

Their agenda would mean warehouses, data centers, and tract housing that erase farmland and forever change the character of our town.
Appointing either of these individuals would be a betrayal of the community’s trust and a step backward for North Plains. Voters have spoken clearly, and repeatedly, against these agendas. The next Mayor must be someone who listens, collaborates, and upholds the values that make North Plains unique.

The community is watching this process closely. Please make this decision transparently, with the people’s voice at the center — not political deals or developer-driven agendas.

I strongly urge you to reject these two candidates and appoint a Mayor who will serve with integrity, transparency, and respect for the will of the community.
