Save north Fayette programs for children

Save north Fayette programs for children
The Issue
On December 6th, I received the distressing news that the director of our beloved North Fayette recreation programs had been terminated. The ramifications of this decision became even more troubling as the proposed 2026 budget came into focus, indicating that our summer and after-school programs are set to be eliminated entirely, and no funds have been allocated for their future. Additionally, the preschool program, a cornerstone of our community, will see a reduction in staff—with two valued teachers set to be removed.
This heart-wrenching shift in priorities seems to stem from a decision by the township to transform our cherished community center into more of a recreation facility, sidelining the critical programs that have long been lifelines for our children. For years, these programs have provided a nurturing and educational environment where our young ones can learn, grow, and thrive in a safe and supportive space. The benefits of such programs go far beyond daycare—they offer socialization, structured learning, and skill-building opportunities crucial for the development of our children.
The absence of these programs will force working parents into difficult predicaments, as they scramble to find alternative childcare solutions that may not provide the level of care and community spirit that these programs afford. By eliminating these cherished facilities, we risk losing an integral part of our community bond and infrastructure—one that has brought families together and supported our children's education and development for generations.
The North Fayette community deserves a balanced approach to its development plans, one that incorporates both recreational elements and the ongoing support of important community services like the preschool, after-school, and summer camp programs. It's crucial that we voice our concerns and make it clear to our township's decision-makers that these programs are irreplaceable treasures that must be preserved.
I urge you to join me in advocating for the retention and adequate funding of these vital programs. Let's send a powerful message: our children’s education and well-being should always be a priority. Sign this petition to demand that North Fayette preserves our essential programs, ensuring a bright and supportive future for all our children. Together, we can make a difference.
