Let Nick Blaine Live – and Be in The Testaments!

To the showrunners of The Handmaid’s Tale and the producers of The Testaments,

We, the undersigned and fans of The Handmaid’s Tale and Margaret Atwood’s novels, call for one thing:

Give Nick Blaine, played by Max Minghella, his rightful role in The Testaments – as a covert resistance fighter with Mayday.

Nick is one of the most complex, fascinating, and emotionally rich characters in The Handmaid’s Tale. He represents hope, moral ambiguity, and internal rebellion against a brutal regime. He embodies transformation and the gray zones of human conscience – making him absolutely central to Margaret Atwood’s universe. It would be a major loss if his story were to end without resolution.

In the series, particularly in Season 6, Nick is portrayed as someone who may have turned his back on June and chosen Gilead. In Episode 9, his possible death is implied – as if his arc ends there. But:

This is not what happens in the books.

In Margaret Atwood’s novel The Testaments, Nick is alive. More than that – he is an active member of the resistance, a key figure in the Mayday network, and still on June’s side.

We ask that the series adaptation honors this crucial part of the original story:

• Let Nick Blaine live – killing him off would not only break with the novel, but also diminish the emotional and political depth of the narrative.
• Portray Nick in The Testaments for what he is: a double agent, a man caught between worlds, quietly but firmly working against the regime.
• Respect the source material – and the expectations of fans who have not given up on this character.
• Give him the space he deserves – as a fighter, a father, and a symbol of the resistance.

Nick Blaine is not a side character. He is a symbol of internal conflict, hidden rebellion, and quiet hope.

He belongs in The Testaments.
