We urge Hertsmere Borough Council to halt any plans to sell or dispose of Newberries Car Park in Radlett until full public consultation and proper scrutiny have taken place. This car park is a vital community asset, and residents deserve transparency and a say in its future.

Newberries Car Park is more than just parking space – it supports our local shops, serves our residents and visitors, and plays a key role in keeping Radlett thriving.

But behind closed doors, it appears the Council is preparing to dispose of it. Buried in recent council papers is a concerning proposal to sell off this vital land. Even more troubling is that this is happening at a time when the Asset Management Panel – responsible for overseeing council-owned land – has not met in months, and has no upcoming meetings scheduled.

This lack of transparency is unacceptable.

We are calling on Hertsmere Borough Council to:

1) Halt any disposal of Newberries Car Park immediately. 

2) Guarantee full public consultation before any decisions are made. 

3) Restore proper scrutiny through regular meetings of the Asset Management Panel. 

4) Provide clear answers about who the site could be sold to and for what purpose.

This is public land – owned by the community. It should not be sold off without public knowledge or input.
