Save New World

The Issue

Amazon Games has announced that New World’s official servers will be shut down after 2026. When that happens, a game that players have invested thousands of hours in will disappear forever—unless the community is given the tools to preserve it.

We’re asking Amazon Games to release the dedicated server files or license community-hosted servers, so that New World can live on long after its official sunset.

Why This Matters

New World isn’t just a game.

It’s a world we built together—towns fortified, wars fought, factions formed, stories written. When the official servers go offline, all of that vanishes.

But it doesn’t have to.

Many other online games have found new life through community servers and licensed hosting. With the right support, Aeternum can continue to thrive, run by the players who love it most.

What We’re Asking For

We respectfully urge Amazon Games to:

  1. Release dedicated server files to allow community hosting; or
  2. Grant licenses to vetted community operators to run private servers under clear guidelines.
  3. Provide minimal documentation and tools to ensure those servers can be stable, secure, and sustainable.

Why This Benefits Everyone

  • Game preservation: Once servers shut down, online games are often lost forever. Allowing community hosting aligns with U.S. preservation efforts that protect discontinued games.
  • Precedent exists: In 2024, NCSoft officially licensed City of Heroes’ community servers. New World can do the same—legally and safely.
  • Low cost, high goodwill: Community hosting shifts infrastructure costs off Amazon while preserving goodwill and legacy.
  • A perfect fit for dedicated servers: Like Minecraft, Rust, and Valheim, New World thrives on social gameplay, territory control, and player-driven storytelling. These systems are ideal for community-run worlds.
  • Respects player investment: People have spent real time and money building their characters, companies, and cities. Allowing community servers honors that commitment.

Addressing Concerns

  • Cheating & Safety: Licensed servers can be required to use approved anti-cheat measures and follow universal conduct standards.
  • Monetization: No pay-to-win or commercial use. Operators can follow strict donation-only models.
  • Brand Protection: Amazon can maintain control through clear IP usage rules and revocable licenses.
  • Technical Stability: A final stable build with documentation ensures reliability and ease of deployment.

What You Can Do

  1. Sign this petition to show Amazon Games that the community wants a future for New World.
  2. Share it with your company, your friends, your faction.
  3. Tell your story. Why does Aeternum matter to you?

This isn’t just about preserving a game.

It’s about preserving a community, a world, and years of shared memories.

Aeternum doesn’t have to die. Let players carry the torch.
